First painting in a series of fantasy creature concept paints! This one was based on a creature from a strange dream my sister-in-law had that was a cross between a tiger and a weasel. It was such a funny dream that I just had to create a painting to imagine what such a creature might look like!
I had so much fun painting this! It was painted in Corel Painter, but I used an enhanced contrast texture scan I made from old book pages/covers and used it for the background canvas. I love the work of illustrator/author Tony DiTerlizzi and his artwork from Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You helped inspired me to make this piece as it it came from an old field journal.
I've already begun the second painting in this series, but I'd love to hear your suggestions for future creature mashup concepts!
